Time of the day
I usually schedule a lifestyle session at home early in the morning when usually there is most light in your apartment and your kids are well rested. This can be adjusted based on your little one routine but please do not forget how important factor is light in your apartment. If you would like to keep your photographs light and airy it is best to meet when there is the most light.
Your apartment
Before we meet, I will ask you to share with me a few photos of your bedroom and living room where I usually take newborn pictures. This will help me understand the light in your apartment but also give an idea how much space we will have available for the session and if some rearranging might be needed. In case both of those rooms are dark we might consider other spaces like for example a guest room.
Your kids
My sessions are baby led sessions meaning that we will give your kids time and space whenever they will need it. I always adjust the flow of the session according to baby needs and in case you need a break for feeding or soothing we will respect that.
If your little one has older siblings I will also ask you before we meet to think of games that your children like to play without using toys: baby airplanes, jumping on the bed, singing finger play songs, reading favorite books, etc. This will help us capture genuine emotions and natural smiles.
The day that we meet don’t tell your children that a photographer is coming but please mention instead that auntie is visiting with a camera to capture some fun moments together and try not to make such a big deal out of it.
Your wardrobe
When choosing your outfits first of all you should consider if they are comfortable and if they match the environment we will be shooting. I usually advise light, pastel colors not only because that is my editing style but also because they will make your photographs look brighter.
Please try to avoid strong patterns and big logos. They often dominate the photograph and distract attention from You. They are a big no no unless the logo is tasteful and in theme with the shoot. It applies to patterns as well! Remember less is more and subtle smaller patterns work best. I usually suggest to limit yourself to one pattern only and keep it simple.
During the photo shoot I will ask you to be barefoot so please don’t forget to remove your socks before I come.
Photos you like
If there is any particular photograph in my portfolio that you really like please share it with me. Probably it won’t be possible to recreate exactly the same situation as each family is different but it will help me to understand what effect we are aiming for.
Still have questions about your lifestyle session at home? Just drop me a message! I would love to hear from you.
