Usually family sessions are a big event for most of us. To make sure everything goes smooth during the photo shoot and make it a memorable experience I wrote down a few tips that will help you get prepared for your shooting day.
Don’t leave choosing your outfits for the last minute
The day of your session you will be probably rushing around to make everyone ready on time. Preparing your wardrobe in advance will save you from unnecessary stress before leaving your house. It is worth preparing a change of clothes for your little one especially if you are planning your session at the beach.
In case you need help in choosing your perfect outfit I will be happy to help. Feel free to share your wardrobe via Whatsapp if you have difficulties in deciding.
When choosing your wardrobe please consider the location and environment we are going to shoot. I usually advise soft neutral colours: white, creamy, beige, light grey, pastels that will correspond well with natural style photography. Choose 1-3 colours with similar tones that will go nicely together. Instead you can play with different fabrics and textures. Please try to avoid strong patterns and big logos are a big no no.
Embrace the chaos and accept all emotions
Preparing everyone for the photo session and leaving home on time might be challenging especially with a bunch of small kids. It might sound difficult but the most important part is not to stress – your kids will feel that and we want to keep it a fun experience. Photo sessions with children are unpredictable and we simply go with the flow. Even if you might get impression that photo shoot seems to be a chaos – don’t worry just enjoy your family time and I will make sure to take some beautiful images. Just be present with your children and accept all their emotions. Please do not stress if your child is throwing sand in the air or running into water and getting his pants all wet. Let the kids be kids and let them get a bit messy cause this is exactly the way to preserve authentic moments. I assure you we gonna have lots of fun playing the airplane with your kids, snuggling, tickling, kissing !
Don’t look at the camera
That is the good news especially for dads who are not a big fun of posing. Instead of being stiff and looking straight into camera I will encourage you to focus on your family and enjoy your time together. There will be very few times when I will ask you to look at the camera. Usually it happens at the beginning of the session when I snap so called “photographs for grandparents” :) and later we can just move forward and enjoy the session. I will give you few prompts to keep it fun for all of you and catch the candid moments. Most people are being surprised how much they love pictures and I do believe it is because they show real emotions instead of being a traditional portrait.
