Don’t ask for smile
I heard that some families even train smiling before their session. One thing is sure, we want to get natural smiles and giggles instead of grinding teeth so please don’t ask your children to smile. There are plenty of other ways to make your kids burst with laughter. Instead of training think of what brings a natural smile on your childs face. And trust me I will also have a few tips and tricks ready for our photo session.
Don’t nag your kids
I know that each parent is worried that their child will not behave during their photo session. I am a mum too and I know what my 3 years old is capable of :) Kids will be kids and I always respect their space and allow to get joyful and messy as this is exactly the way to preserve authentic moments. Don’t compare them to other kids and don’t nag them - it will completely block their creativity. Just be present in the moment and I assure you we will have lots of fun playing with your kids, snuggling, tickling and kissing!
Don’t look at the camera
That is the good news especially for dads who are not a big fun of posing. Instead of being stiff and looking straight into camera I will encourage you to focus on your family and enjoy your time together. There will be very few times when I will ask you to look at the camera. Usually it happens at the beginning of the session when I snap so called “photographs for grandparents” :) and later we can just move forward and enjoy the session. I will give you few prompts to keep it fun for all of you and catch the candid moments. Most people are being surprised how much they love pictures and I do believe it is because they show real emotions instead of being a traditional portrait.
Avoid hunger and sleepless night
It is never a good idea to show up for photo session on empty stomach and sleepless night. Knowing from my experience hungry kids equals cranky kids. Please make sure your child has full belly before the session and do not forget to bring some snacks for your little one for after the shoot. Believe me we will burn some calories together and it is worth to keep some snack and water handy.
If you would like to see how my session feels like please see some highlights from the recent family photo shoot at Al Sufouh beach also called Black Palace beach. The session was a gift from a dear friend and the family decided to capture their memories during the sunset. I am so in love with the light and moments we created together.
